Army Hockey Players Carry Away ‘Navy Cup - 2017’

Sri Lanka Army Hockey players Sunday (9) evening beat their Navy counterparts during the finals in the ‘Navy Cup 2017’, Hockey Tournament, held at the Hockey Turf in Welisara Navy Camp premises and carried away the trophy.

The Army Hockey players scored 2 against 0 during the finals.

Sunday’s finals came about after a tournament that was conducted nearly for two days under arrangements, made by the Sri Lanka Navy Hockey Committee.

Sixteen club teams from tri services, Police and the civil sector vied in the two-day long tournament that commenced on April 8.

During the tournament, Army players beat KDU for 3-0, Vennappuwa Sports Club for 3-0, BRC for 5-0 and SLAF for 1-0.

Sapper M.G Sanjeewa was awarded the trophy for the best player of the tournament.

Rear Admiral Sirimewan Sarathchandra Ranasinghe, Chief of Staff of the Navy as the Chief Guest presented the Navy Cup - 2017 to the Army winners.

Major General Shavendra Silva, Chairman, Army Hockey Committee as the Guest of Honour to the event too participated in the award of medals to Army winners and Navy players.
