Army Footballers on Goodwill Tour to India

A football team of the Sri Lankan Army as part of the ongoing Army-to-Army Sports exchange programme is to play with their counterparts in the Indian Army during December 19 - 21 in Calcutta, India.

The 20-member Sri Lankan Army team left for India this morning (18). During their stay in India, they are expected to participate in two friendly matches with their counterparts in the Indian Army.

Indian Army’s Blue Team and Green Team players would meet their Sri Lankan counterparts at Garhwal ground, Calcutta during two friendly matches on Monday (19) and Wednesday (21).

The team, comprised of Brigadier H.D.W Kariyawasam, Chairman, Army Football Committee would also attend a couple of practice sessions.

This ongoing exchange programme, the brainchild of the Commander of the Army, has been faring well in the past and the most recent arrival of the Pakistan Army Hockey team and the Indian Volleyball team to meet with Army players in Sri Lanka, signalled healthy relations that exist between the Indian Army and the Sri Lankan Army.
