Army Engineers & Troops Complete Construction of 287 New Houses in Keppapilavu Model Village

Sri Lanka Army Engineers and troops serving under the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) officially completed the construction of 287 new houses at Keppapilavu Model Village, Mullaittivu with the ceremonial opening of the remaining 19 homes and a new medical centre on Thursday (25).

Ministry of Resettlement, Reconstruction and Hindu Affairs entrusted the construction project with the Army in September 2012 after releasing funds to that effect through the respective District and Divisional Secretariats in Mullaittivu District.

On the directions of Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army, both 592 Brigade Commander and 59 Division General Officer Commanding actively coordinated the mega Housing Project, meant for displaced civilians who remained temporarily housed at Manik Farm Relief Centre, Pilakudiyirippu, Suriyapuram, Seniyamottai, Jaffna Allarai and Keppapilavu areas after they had lost their homes in the war against terrorists before May 2009.

Last week’s ceremony in the final leg of the project was attended by Ms R. Kethishwari, District Secretary for Mullaittivu and Major General P.U.S Vithanage, Commander, SFHQ-MLT as Chief Guests, together with the Project Directress, Ms B. Kaneshmurthi, Planning Directress, Ms D. Vilbarasa, Zonal Education Directress, Ms U. Munishwaran, 59 Division General Officer Commanding, Brigadier N.D Wanniarachchi, 592 Brigade Commander, civil officials, several invitees and a gathering of villagers and their relatives.

The project continuously monitored by the District Secretary for Mullaittivu under several phases, completed the construction of 50 houses in May 2013, 101 houses in February 2014, 78 houses in October 2014, 39 houses in October 2015 and the final 19 houses a few days ago.

On the same day of the ceremonial opening of those 19 houses, a new medical centre, established in the Keppapilavu model village complex was also opened to the residents.

Similarly, Keppapilavu Primary School in the project was given permanent electricity supply, a long-felt need of the school-goers.
