Army Elle Finals Concluded at Palaly Making SLAC & 7 SLAWC Champions


Elle players of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) and 7 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (7 SLAWC) respectively secured championship trophies in the Inter Regiment Elle tournament (men) and Inter Battalion Elle tournament (women) at the finals played on Thursday (13) at Palaly.

SLAC players encountered Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) team, men’s runners-up at the final match while the women’s competition was held between 7 SLAWC and 5 SLAWC, women’s runners up teams.

The preliminary matches started on Saturday (8) at Palaly and Kankesanthurai where male teams from 13 regiments and 5 teams from SLAWC vied for the trophies.

Private K.A.S.R Perera of 1 SLAC secured the award for the all-rounder (men) while Lance Corporal J.A.P.D Wasantha of 6 SLAC and Private W.A.S.C Malinga of 8 SLSR were respectively awarded for being highest scorer and for the most number of catches in the men’s category.    

Corporal R.A.A.M Ranathunga of 7 SLAWC was adjudged the all rounder in women’s category. Lance Corporal R.D.N Pathmachandra of 5 SLAWC won the award for the most number of catches and Lance Corporal W.M Buddini of 5 SLAWC won the highest scorer’s award. The match was judged by judges of Sri Lanka Elle Association.

Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) and Chairman Sri Lanka Army Cricket Committee presented a special gift to Milan Perera, an Elle enthusiast from Ganemulla who quenched the thirst of players waking all over the ground throughout the match.

Major Genera Udaya Perera graced the occasion as chief guest. Brigadier Athula Galagamage, Director, Directorate of Sports at Army Headquarters and senior officers of the SFHQ-J and other ranks were present on the occasion.
