Army Drivers Run Emergency Ambulance Services in Anuradhapura Hospitals

Anuradhapura area-based 21 Division troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) quickly extended their services to urgent requirements of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital and other peripheral hospitals after ambulance drivers and all other general drivers, went on a sudden strike this morning (22) at Anuradhapura.

Crippling the day to-day transport services of 16 Anuradhapura District hospitals, including the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, the strike brought all transport services in respective hospitals to a total standstill, depriving the patients of ambulance services and other transport movements.

The sudden disruption prompted hospital authorities to seek the assistance of Army personnel to maintain the most required skeletal services in their respective places.

Responding to the need, the 21 Division Headquarters on the directions of its General Officer Commanding immediately made arrangements to send 11 drivers for the service of ambulances in respective hospitals, together with Army personnel for drivers’ assistance on the directions of the Commander of the Army.

In addition, another team of drivers was deployed in affected hospitals for general duties in administrative vehicles and other heavy vehicles.
