Army Doctors Updated on Their Resuscitation Practices

A new project, conducted with the blessings of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva and Director General, Army Health Services, Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe, updated the knowledge and skills of Army health care providers on resuscitating practices.

Department of Anaesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Management in collaboration with the College of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists successfully completed the Advanced Life Support Course No: 3 for doctors in the Army Hospital, Colombo and the Army Base Hospital Panagoda on Tuesday (21) and ended the programme during a simple ceremony.

Colonel Dhawala Perera, Head of Department of Anaesthesia and Lieutenant Colonel Champika Abeysinghe, Consultant, Anaesthetist arranged this workshop in line with the guidelines of the European Resuscitation Council which has world-wide accepted standards.

During the workshop, doctors were trained to identify deteriorating patient in order to prevent cardiac arrests, etc and the latest techniques and skills meant to reverse cardiac arrests. After the training, these Army doctors will be able vastly to improve the chances of survival of critically injured patients.

This workshop is to be held at the Army Hospital Colombo every three months for doctors in all island-wide Army hospitals.
