Army Cyclists & Athletes Dominate Katunayake Expressway Opening Sports Events

 

Warrant Officer I.C.P Meemanage of Sri Lanka Army in the Men’s Cycle Race that coincided with next Sunday’s ceremonial inauguration of the Colombo-Katunayake New Expressway won the first place on Tuesday (22) after finishing the race at Peliyagoda.

The event, organized by Sri Lanka Cycling Interim Committee in collaboration with the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha under the directive of Economic Development Minister Hon. Basil Rajapaksa, was competed by more than 300 well known cyclists of the country.

Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga flagged off the start of the race that covered a distance of 52 km.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Army reigned supreme in the Men’s Marathon events, bagging first and second places, with Tissa Gunasekara emerging as the 1st winner and Saman Kumara finishing second.

In Women’s Marathon, Lance Corporal Geethani Rajasekara clocked the first place.
