Army Cyclist Secures 3rd Place in Air Force Cycle Race

 

Twelve cyclists of the Army who took part in the three-day long (March 15-17) ‘Air Force Cycle Tour’ organized by Sri Lanka Air Force did well and carried away prizes and certificates.

Of them Lance Corporal Lakshman Wijerathne of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) secured the third place covering all three stages of the cycle race. The race started from Colombo toured Puttalam, Kurunegala and Dambulla areas and ended up in Colombo covering a distance of about 457 kms.

The Army fielded 18 cyclists for the race but 8 of them suffered injuries and abstained from continuing their participation. In the overall result, the Army secured 3rd, 4th, 6th, 11th and 14th slots and received certificates and prizes.
