Army Cricketers Enter Super 8 in Premier League Tournament

Army Sports Club beating Saracens in the first inning in the 2016/2017 premier league three-day Cricket match, held at the Moors Cricket Grounds, Colombo during 14-16 January, entered the Super 8 Rounds in the tournament.

Premier League Tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has now entered the final phase.

During the match, the Saracens Sports Club (SC) scored 358 runs in 87.2 overs while Army SC scored 361 in 116.2 overs.

Private G.V Pushpakumara took 3 wickets for 72 runs and Trooper K.D.V Wimalasekara took 3 wickets for 118 runs in the 1st Innings.

Meanwhile, excellent performances were shown by Lance Bombardier, A.G.V.L Madushan, scoring 152 runs and Private D.D Soyza with 69 runs in the 1st Innings.

In the second innings, Saracens SC scored 179 for 5 wickets in 23 overs. Army SC in their second innings scored 146 runs for 5 wickets in 44 overs.

During the second innings, Trooper K.D.V Wimalasekara took 3 wickets for 72 runs in the 2nd Innings and also scored 55 runs.

Finally, Army SC achieved a 1st innings victory and was selected to the Super 8 round obtaining the fourth position in the points table.

In the preliminary rounds of the tournament, Army SC achieved the first innings victory against BRC, Colts and Saracens SCs.
