Army Cricketers Champion in Malaysia

Sri Lanka Army Cricket team now in Malaysia emerged champions defeating KL Zalmi Cricket Club in the NSCA International Champions League T20/20 cricket, held in Malaysia on 31 March at Kinnara sports stadium in Kuala Lumpur.

Batting first, Sri Lanka Army Cricket team scored 220 for 5 wickets after 20 overs having won the toss. KL Zami cricketers were unable to chase the target and obtained only 95 runs. Army cricketers won the tournament by 125 runs.

In the semi finals, Army players beat the UKM cricket club and won the match. In the first round, Army cricketers defeated two more teams and were selected to the semi finals. The first match was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

Sri Lanka Army Cricket team now in Malaysia at the invitation of the Malaysia Cricket Association (MCA), left the island on Sunday (25) to participate in a 12-day cricket tournament that ends on 5 April.

During the tournament, Army cricketers competed in the NSCA International Champions League T20/20 cricket tournament organized by the Negeri Sembilan Cricket Association during 27 -30 March.

Lieutenant Ajantha Mendis and Warrant Officer 1 Seekuge Prasanna of the national team are representing the Army squad during the tournament.

Afterwards, Army cricketers played 3 one-day (50 overs) matches with Malaysian national cricket team during 1-3 April.

These types of tournaments will increase the confidence among members and help cricketers to orientate to different turfs.
