Army Corporal’s New Invention Wins Silver in Tokyo’s JDIE

Sri Lanka Army Soldier Corporal D.M.C Dissanayake’s innovative and creative product ‘Novel Flood Shield for Heavy Equipment’ showcased in Japan’s Tokyo-based ‘Japan Design & Invention Expo’ (JDIE) during 4-6 August won a Silver medal under Technical Category beating more than hundreds of innovations, presented to the event.

Corporal D.M.C Dissanayake of the 2 Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) whose creative innovation was first exposed in the Army initiated ‘Jaffna Innoveta’ exhibition of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna came in for praise of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, who was then serving as the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna.

His innovative product of exceptional nature was personally supervised by Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake at that time and the Commander assured him all the support and encouragement.

The ‘Sri Lanka Inventors Commission’ (SLIC) adjudged his innovative product as one of the bests that suits international standards afterwards nominated him to represent the Army in the Tokyo exhibition under the able guidance given by Dr Mahesh Edirisinghe, Commissioner, SLIC. Corporal Dissanayake’s innovative product, ‘Automated Security System for Disaster Situations’ drew the attention of the SLIC, which brought the matter to the attention of the ‘Japan’s Institute of Invention and Innovations’ (JIII).

Dr Mahesh Edirisinghe, Commissioner, SLIC after inviting Corporal Dissanayake to the SLIC premises a few days ago, delivered the letter of invitation to the innovator. Brigadier Ranjith Dharmasiri, Deputy Director General, Research Analysis Projection and Development Branch of the Army was also present at the occasion. (More details follow).
