CHINESE Ambassador in Sri Lanka Ms. Yang Xiuping paid a courtesy call on Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka Wednesday (6) afternoon at his office in the Army Headquarters.
Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka after extending a warm welcome briefed her on the status quo in relation to the final phase of the humanitarian rescue operation and measures that have been in place in the ‘No Fire Zone’ for receipt of them.
The visiting diplomat also received a comprehensive account on the recent exodus of entrapped civilians into cleared areas through multimedia and how they were smoothly directed to government-managed welfare centers afterwards. Commander also acknowledged assistance and cooperation, extended to Sri Lanka by Chinese people in the past several decades. Both exchanged mementos towards the end of the day’s meeting as recognition of their goodwill. Secretary to the diplomat was also associated in the discussion.
