Army Christmas Carols Reverberates at Nelum Pokuna

Sri Lanka Army’s annual Christmas Carols coordinated by the Army Christian Fellowship occurred this evening (21) at Nelum Pokuna theatre amidst a gathering of distinguished invitees.

The day’s Chief Guest, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi attended the special occasion, conducted in both Sinhala and English languages.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army welcomed the Chief Guest at the entrance to the Nelum Pokuna.

Rev. Fr. Benedict Joseph, Sri Lanka Army Chaplain, together with several choirs including the Army one, conducted Carols, adding festive atmosphere to the occasion.

Rt. Rev. Maxwell Silva, Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo read out the Christmas message reminding the gathering of the true meaning of Christmas.

Voices rent to the event by veteran artistes, backed by the Army Choir with the most celebrated melodies, ‘Silent Night’, ‘O Holy Night’, & ‘Feliz Navidad’, came in for praise and appreciation. Choir of Good Shepherd’s Convent, Choir of St. Benedict’s College and Choir of St. Bridget’s Convent contribution of Army personnel and combined choirs, added colour and rhythmic variety to the occasion.

Popular vocalists, Indrani Perera, Corin Almeda, Anil Bharathi, Maximel Silva, Rookantha Goonethilake and a few other leading singers, backed by veterans in the Army Choir, added melody and rhythm to the occasion as those soloists appeared before the gathering.

Mrs Karunasena Hettiarachchi, the spouse of the Secretary Defence was also among the invitees.

Past Commanders, Retired Senior Army Officers, Principal Staff Officers, Senior Army Officers, Officers and Other Ranks with their spouses, attended the Christmas Carols - 2016.
