Army Christmas Carols Get Underway at St. Joseph's College

As the season of sharing and caring with compliments set in with the forthcoming Christmas and the dawn of a New Year, the Sri Lanka Army contributed its share to the phenomenon by holding a Christmas Carols service at St. Joseph’s College Chapel Wednesday (21) evening.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army and Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch graced the evening as distinguished guests at the invitation of the Army Christian Fellowship.

The event, organized by the Army Christian Fellowship conducted in all three major languages - Sinhala, Tamil and English - sang odes jointly to the Prince of the Peace, Jesus Christ and heralded his birth. It also prayed for world peace and prosperity.

Rev. Fr. Noel Dias, Sri Lanka Army Chaplain, Rev. Dr. Sylvester Ranasinghe, Rector of St Joseph’s College, Rev. Bro. Principal, Teachers and choir of St. Benedict’s College, Rev. Sister Principal, teachers and choir of Holy Family Convent, Teachers and choir of St. Joseph’s College and Army Children’s Choir & Army Choir, conducted the Carols that adorned the festive atmosphere.

Contribution by veteran artistes like Mr Eshantha de Andrado and Mr Dayan D.L Fernando whose talents are highly recognized came in for praise of the congregation.

Singers Indrani Perera, Anil Bharathi, Ronie Leitch, Mariazelle Goonetillake and a few more leading artistes contributed as soloists.    

Major General S.A.A.L Perera, Chairman, Army Christian Fellowship, Senior Retired Army Officers, Officers and Other Ranks with their spouses attended the Christmas service.

This is a customary Army event during the Christmas season.
