Army Canoeing & Kayaking Players Excel in National Tournament

Army players won Silver in National Canoeing & Kayaking Competition -2018 organized by the Sri Lanka Canoeing & Kayaking National Association got underway in Diyawanna waters on 24 April.

Teams from Tri -Forces, Civil Organizations and Schools competed in the events.

Gunner S.A.A. W Samantha of Sri Lanka Artillery secured the second place in Open Cl 200m, Open Cl 500m, Cl 1000m and K 1 23 below 1000m events.

Lance Corporal K. M. Y. H Kulathunga of Sri Lanka Light Infantry secured the Third Place in Open Cl 200m events.

Gunner S. A. A. W Samanga of Sri Lanka Artillery clinched the Third Place in K1 23 Below 200m, K1 23 Below 500m, Cl 23 Below 200m, Cl 23 Below 500m and Cl 23 Below 1000m events in the competition.

Gunner S. A. A. W Samanga of Sri Lanka Artillery and Private L. K. D. U Kumara secured the Third Place Open 1(2 200m) event.

Gunner W.D. L. N Chandrasena of 23 Gemunu Watch L.K. D Kumara 18 Sri Lanka Light Infantry secured the Third Place Open K1 500m and Open K2 100m events.

Corporal E. M. Madushan of 11 Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Gunner S. N.S Silva of Sri Lanka Artillery, Lance Corporal S. H. R Gunasena of 1 Gajaba Regiment and Lance Corporal K.M.Y.H Kulatunga of Sri Lanka Light Regiment secured the Third Place Open 1(4 500m) and Open 1(4 1000m) events. Canoeing is a recreational boating activity or paddle sport, in which sportsmen kneel or sit facing forward in an open or closed-decked canoe.

Kayaking is played with the use of a kayak for moving across water. It is distinguished from canoeing by the sitting position of the paddler and the number of blades on the paddle.
