Army-built 30 more New Houses for Jaffna IDPs Opened in Brief Ceremony

Construction of new houses by the Army for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Jaffna peninsula, a project that was initiated by the incumbent Commander of the Army when he was the Jaffna Commander fulfilled one more phase on Thursday (5) when 30 new houses erected by the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) were vested with IDPs during a ceremony at Thellippalai, Jaffna.

Raw materials and funds for those constructions were provided by the Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs while Sri Lanka Army Engineers of the SFHQ-J contributed their engineering skills as expertise the successful completion of the project in less than five months.

Hon Mawei Senadhiraja MP for Jaffna District inaugurating the ceremony delivered the keys to several recipients of those houses in a symbolic gesture and conducted an observation tour in Thellippalai model village area, together with state officials and Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J).

It was only last week, a similar project with 25 houses was commissioned by none other than the Commander of the Army himself, together with the District Secretary for Jaffna and other distinguished invitees at Nallinakkapuram.

Similarly, a mega project of 100 more houses was completed and handed over to the civilians in Keeramalai few months ago.
