Army Body Builders & Weight-Lifters Achieve Supremacy in National Tournaments

Sri Lanka Army Sports Club earned top honours at the National Body Building Championship, organized by the Sri Lanka Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (SLBBFF) on Saturday (24) at D.S Senanayake Sports Complex, Colombo 7.

Sapper R.M.S. Udaya Kumara of the Sri Lanka Engineers representing Sri Lanka Army Sports Club won the ‘Mr Sri Lanka’ title in the 69th SLBBFF Championship.

During the event, Private T.N.U.K. Tennakoon was adjudged the first runner-up and Private V.A. Mendis was the second runner-up from the Sri Lanka Army Sports Club.

Defeating more than 15 sports clubs Army SC achieved 28 points to claim three Gold, four Silver and one Bronze (1) medals during the tournament.

Cash prizes of Rs 100,000/= Rs 75,000/= and Rs 50,000/= were awarded to the winners respectively.

This year’s event was conducted by the Federation sans any sponsorship support. It was made possible, thanks to veteran bodybuilders who came forward and provided their personal funds for conduct of the Championship as usual.

Hon Dayasiri Jayasekara, Minister of Sports graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Army Sports Club secured the ‘National Weight Lifting’ title at the 69th Sri Lanka Body Building and Fitness Federation (SLBBFF). It concluded on Saturday (24) at Polonnaruwa Sports Complex.

More than 15 sports clubs vied in the tournament at Polonnaruwa and Army competitors secured 7 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze medals winning in all the seven classes.

Chief Minister for North Central, Mr Peshala Jayarathna graced the National Weight Lifting finals at Pulathisipura as the Chief Guest and awarded certificates and trophies.

Major General M.H.P Mihindukulasuriya, Chairman, Army Body Building, Weight Lifting and Power Lifting Committee encouraged the competitors during the tournaments.
