Army Athletes Receive Incentives on the Eve of 8th Defence Service Games


Selected Sri Lanka Army Athletes participating in the 8th Defence Service Games beginning on Monday (3) received incentives and greetings from the Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Athletics Committee, Major General Amal Karunasekara on Saturday (1) during a simple ceremony at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo 7.

Sri Lanka Army athletes who have won the championship in all 7 previous championship tournaments will this year take part in the three-day tournament ( November 3 – 5 ) in all events with a total of 106 members, including woman athletes, led by the Warrant Officer 1 (WO 1) B.L Nadeeka Lakmali, the 'Asian Games' medalist.

Of the total, 48 Army athletes who have received international glory or participated in international events are to compete in the 8th Defence Service Games with the objective of making new records.

During the ceremony, Major General Karunasekara for the first time, introduced a standard track kit for the use of all Army athletes beginning from this year. These new kits were presented to competing athletes, coaches, trainers and ardent supporters as incentives to their participation in the Games.

Army athletes under the motto ‘Pioneers in Athletics’ will display their talents beginning Monday (3).

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army himself, a former President of the Sri Lanka Army Athletics committee, the Army Athletic Committee to give them the best possible incentives.
