Army athletes who competed in the recent, ‘Derana’ - organized walk and marathon run, named ‘Little Hearts Walk and Marathon’ in aid of ‘Derana’ Little Hearts Project to build a heart hospital for children on Sunday (29) secured prominent wins against hundreds of rivals.
As the marathon wound up at the Independence Square, Corporal N.G Rajasekara of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) won the Gold medal in the Women’s category, Sergeant K.G.R Saman Kumara of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC), a Gold medal, Private U.K.N Ratnayake of the 7 SLAWC and Private U.V.K Madurika of the 6 (V) SLAWC with two Bronze medals respectively.
Similarly, in the men’s category, Gunner K Sammugeshwaran of the Sri Lanka Artillery and Gunner K Jayasinghe of the Sri Lanka Artillery secured Silver and Bronze medals respectively.
The marathon covered Independence Avenue, Bauddaloka Mawatha, D.S. Senanayke Juction, Baseline Road, Ward Place, Nelum Pokuna, C.W.W. Kannangara Mawatha before it returned to its start, Independence Square.
