Army’s Rimzan Records Two Wins in Day One


The opening day’s play of the All Island Lanka Plate Billiards Championship saw Private M. Rimzan of Army recording two wins in the matches, played at the MICH billiards table on Monday (10).

In the morning session Rimzan took sweet revenge from M.B. Nazeem of YMCA to whom he lost in the semi – finals of the Colombo District tournament two days ago, with a two frames to one win in the three-frame first round encounter.

Rimzan followed it up with his second win in the evening session when he defeated the experienced A. Jayaratne of YMBA by the same winning margin.

The other cueists to win their first round matches were Riyas Noor (MSC), S.I. Honoon (MICH), Omar Haniff (MSC), I. Peramunage (Galle), S.S. Dinuruwan (Army), Susantha Wickrama (Army), S.S. Kumarapperuma (Army), K.A.R. Samandisi (Army), M.J.A. Thasleem (AAC) and M. Uvais (Galle).

The All Island Lanka Plate Championship contested by 36 cueists is a qualifying tournament for the forthcoming National Billiards Championship. The last sixteen players will qualify to participate in the national championship. The first round matches will be continued from 10.00 a.m. onwards on Tuesday (11) at the same venue.
