Army's Rajarata 'Searchlight Tattoo' Ends with Unprecedented Motorbike Stunts

The three-day long Rajarata ‘Searchlight Tattoo’ of the Army ended on Sunday (21) at Anuradhapura in a triumphant note, creating a new Sri Lankan record in the sphere of motorbike stunts.

An estimated packed crowd of about 15,000 each day witnessed the mammoth display of the assortment of undisputed skills, gallantry and acrobatics that were on the boards at Anuradhapura Public Ground. The ‘Searchlight Tattoo’ was inaugurated on Friday (19) by Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.

Taking centre stage on the final day of the Tattoo was the motorbike rider, Private D.U.R Silva of the 2 Sri Lanka Military Police (SLMP) who sent chilling waves and stunned the spectators while flying over fifteen stationary vehicles, to produce a leap that has perhaps never been heard or recorded in the contemporary history of Sri Lanka.

His clearing of fifteen vehicles, the highest ever number in Sri Lanka at one jump-off on a 250 cc beat the existing record of twelve vehicles, according to well-informed sources in the sports field.

The rider, Private Silva to his credit has carved a place for himself in motorbike riding during many Army and civil sector events. He won the first place in the recent Cavalry Supercross - 2011 (Army category) beating more than 30 riders. Recently, he carried away the trophy for the first place in Nalanda Motorcross under 250 cc category. In addition, he has secured significant places in Sigiriya Supercross (2010), Vijayaba Motorcross (2010/2011), Gajaba Supercross (2010), Foxhill, Diyatalawa (2011), Cavalry Supercross (2010) and also has emerged as runners-up in the Longest Motorbike Jump in Vijayaba Motorcross (2010/2011).
