Archers’ 27th Anniversary Prioritize Religious Ceremonies

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) on Tuesday (21) kicked off its 27th Anniversary programmes at its Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane under the auspices of its Colonel of the Regiment.

The Regimental flags as the first segment of the ceremonies were blessed at the Temple of Tooth, Kandy on Tuesday (21) where Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Colonel of the Regiment took part as the Chief Guest.

Later on, at the VIR Headquarters, the Colonel of the Regiment was greeted to a formal Guard Turnout at the entrance to the premises in keeping with military traditions in the morning on anniversary day (22).

After that, the Colonel of the Regiment laid a floral-wreath to the VIR War Monument in the premises and observed a two-minute silence in honour of fallen War Heroes.

Afterwards, Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana received the salute in the Guard of Honour and planted a white sandun (sandal) sapling in the premises as a token of memory.

Later on, Colonel of the Regiment addressed the troops in the indoor auditorium appealed everyone to help raise Regimental standards.

Afterwards, the Colonel of the Regiment presented prizes and certificates to the soldiers who excelled in Volleyball, Boxing, Motor Racing, etc in recently conducted Inter Regimental Games.

Furthermore, Sergeant I.A.P Saman Kumara who participated in the last World T-20 Handicapped Cricket Match received a sport equipment as an incentive. At the end of the day, an all night Pirith chanting got underway at the Regimental premises.

Colonel of the Regiment on the following day (23) laid the foundation stone for a 3-storied accommodation building at the Regimental premises. An all rank dinner was held at the VIR Salute Hall as the final leg of the events.
