All Spokesmen Spell Out Security Operations & Status Quo

All Spokesmen of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police in a joint briefing at the Ministry of Defence this afternoon (27) explained the current security situation and recoveries in the past 24 hours. Here are the excerpts of their explanations.

Air Force Spokesman, Group Captain Gihan Seneviratne :- Using a Bell 212 aircraft, air surveillance is being conducted by Air Force troops while providing maximum security to the Colombo and Mattala International airports. In addition, a search operation conducted today (27) in the general area of Periyamulla, Negombo enabled troops to arrest 21 suspects and recover a large cache of swords, pointed knives and a stock of drones. Suspects and recoveries were handed over to respective Police stations. Troops also conducted search operations in Boralanda-Ella areas.

Army (Military Spokesman) Brigadier Sumith Atapattu :- All precautionary measures to maintain law and order and consolidate security measures have been taken and terrorist machinations appear to be facing a challenge as all their plans are ending in failure. Security Forces round the country are recovering explosives, swords, machetes, etc and arresting suspects including the one at Wellawatte on Friday evening. Six children were among those who blew up at Saindumardu explosions and death toll stood at 15 in the east.

Navy Spokesman, Lieutenant Commander Isuru Sooriyabandara :- Indian offshore coastal guards in the northern waters of Sri Lanka have pledged their support to Sri Lankan naval operations and a security blanket is in force in the eastern seas as well. At Erakkandi, Trincomalee, troops arrested a motorbike and a suspect and recovered about six kilos of explosives, 215 detonators and fuse wires of 27 ft in length. Additional naval patrol vessels are at sea now and conducting surveillance operations.

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera :- A sum of Rs 1 lakh in notes were recovered from an abandoned house in Ninatavur area this afternoon and Police investigations are not based on the status of any person but on the outcome of all review of case by case nature. It determines the next course of action as suitable. He also spoke about the incidents in Ninthavur, Sainda Maradu and Samanthurai.
