Alert Troops Apprehend One More Lorryload of Satinwood from Madu Area

612 Brigade (Bde) troops of the 61 Division (Div) serving in Madu area this morning (21) once again apprehended one more stock of illicitly felled satinwood logs while they were being transported away from the Madu Forest Reserve.

Those 20 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops on routine duties have suddenly spotted the particular lorry proceeding to the main road from a narrow jungle path and signalled them to stop on suspicion.

However, the two suspects on the lorry failed to furnish necessary information in regard to the logs, prompting the troops to get in touch with the 612 Bde Commander for further instructions.

Within a few minutes officials of the Department of Forest Conservation arrived at the scene and took the stock of logs, suspects and the lorry into their custody.

A similar detection was made a few days back by the same troops. (See News Highlights on 2nd April 2016, Titled "Army Troops Detect Large Scale Satinwood Tree Felling Jungle Spot"
