Affected 2280 Plus Kilinochchi Students & 100 Families Given Essentials by Southerners

Unprecedented gestures of honest assistance from the South to poverty and flood -affected Kilinochchi students and civilians still continue to pour, thanks to the effective and credible coordinating and distributing mechanisms of the Army in place in respective areas under the able guidance of Major General Ralph Nugera, Commander, Security Forces-Kilinochchi who has been backed round the clock by the 57 Division, 571, 572, 573 Brigades, 7SLLI, 9VIR, 14 SLNG, 1SLSR, 15(volunteer) SLSR troops in their areas of responsibility.

The joint 'Senehase Siyapatha’ project of the Ministry of Defence and Dialog Axiata group on Monday (21) distributed a massive stock of school aids to record 2280 students at Kilinochchi Central College, Kilinochchi Hindu College, Panninkaddi Government Mixed school, Bharathi Hindu School, Punnaravi Mixed School, Saint Anthony's College, Murusumodai College, Kandawali Maha Vidyalaya, Murugananda Primary School, Waddakachchi South Mixed school and Mayawanur College during separate arrangements with the sole objective of assisting them to re-start their studies after floods affected them badly.

Meanwhile, the former popular actress turned Yoga instructor, Ms Anoja Weerasinghe and her supporters in 'Gestures' Training centre gave away 100 dry ration packets and essentials to flood–affected families free in Dharmapuram village on Monday (21). Donors after talking to those affected families distributed those gift parcels as immediate relief essentials, following coordination made by the 57 Division troops.

Meanwhile, one more distribution programme of school equipment for selected 217 flood-affected school students was held at the Periyakulam Primary School, Kattakau Primary School, Kalmadu Nagar Primary School and Sivapada Kalaigam Government Tamil Mixed School on Tuesday (22) following sponsorship jointly provided by Ministry of Defence and Dialog Axiata through coordination of 572,574 Brigades, 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 3 Gajaba Regiment troops.

In the meantime, ‘Reforest Sri Lanka’ organization in response to the Army request sponsored the distribution of 200 dry ration packets for selected families in Mailavanapuram, Kolondupuram, Puththadi, Thottiadi and Nethaliaru villages in the Kilinochchi District on Sunday. Coordination was done by 14 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops serving the 572 Brigade in the 57 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi.

Mr Nimal Dissanayake, a representative of the donor agency, Commanding Officer, 26 SLSR, several community leaders and state officials attended the occasion.

Subsequently, another donation of school aids and accessories to flood -affected 312 students Kilinochchi schools was held with the sponsorship, extended by the 'Senehase Siyapatha' project of both the Ministry of Defence and Dialog Axiata group on Wednesday (23) at Kannakai Amman College, Kumarasamini Puram government mixed school and Kallaru Government Tamil School.

These programmes were coordinated under direction of the Commander, SF-KLN and the GOC, 57 Division by 572, 573 Brigades, 1SLSR, 14 SLNG, troops.

In the meantime, 150 more flood-affected families in Kilinochchi under the supervision of the Major General Vijitha Ravipriya, GOC, 57 Division received essentials and dry rations on Wednesday (23) thanks to the generosity extended by a group of Buddhist monks, Ven Galle Udhita Thero, Ven Balangoda Budhdhagosha Thero, Ven Theligoda Sangharathana Thero and Ven Balangoda Damitha thero.
