Aesthetic Talents of Differently-able War Heroes on Display

A collective of more than 50 differently-able War Heroes of the Army are to showcase their inborn aesthetic talents in handicrafts, art and sculpture during a mega exhibition, organized by the Directorate of Rehabilitation during 1 - 2 November at J.D.A Perera Gallery, Colombo 7.

Presentation of those unique and exceptionally created masterpieces, most of them, designed either by visually-impaired, bed-ridden or amputees, lying at different rehabilitation centres, would turn a new leaf in their lives since this exhibition would be the first exposure for them at a public event in a recognized art gallery in the country.

Directorate of Rehabilitation of the Army in coordination with the Ranaviru Resource Centre (RRC) at Wattala initiated this novel project of aesthetic value with the blessings of the Commander of the Army under the supervision of Major General Shavendra Silva, Adjutant General and Brigadier Shantha Thirunaukarisu, Director of Rehabilitation.

This mega exhibition, inclusive of clay, cane, bamboo, palmyrah, flower, bark, paper, leaf, seed, rattan and weaving plant products, sculptures and a variety of artworks, done by those War Heroes will remain open to the public from 7.00 pm on Wednesday (1) and from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm on Thursday (2).
