ABORTIVE LTTE SUICIDE ATTEMPT ON COMMANDER'S LIFE COMPLETES 3 YEARS

EXACTLY three years ago on a sunny day like today (April 25), the Nation was shocked to learn the disturbing news on LTTE’s suicide attempt on the life of the incumbent Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka inside the Army Headquarters premises.

Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka who had by then commenced the liberation of the East from the grips of LTTE terrorism had a narrow survival after a series of major surgeries, done both in Sri Lanka and overseas.

Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka, one of the major and pioneer pillars behind successful military operations to-date against terrorists, was the first-ever Army Commander to declare that he would wipe out LTTE terrorism during his tenure of office. The woman suicide bomber, disguised herself as a pregnant woman who had come to the military hospital rammed on to Commander’s car as he was proceeding for his lunch.

The Nation, badly excited after the tragedy, went on holding numerous Bodhi Poojas, Pirith Chanting Sessions, Special Services, Poojas and Prayers in respective places of religious worship in order to invoke blessings on him and wish him speedy recovery.
