Troops of the 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) of the 583 Brigade under the 58 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) rose to the occasion and cleared a huge tree that has fallen on a line of estate houses on (13) Sunday in Atalawatta, Pindeniya in a remote area in Kegalle district.
At the request of Disaster Management authorities for urgent assistance for removal of the tree, 8 SLSR troops on the instructions of Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West, rushed to the scene and gave their hand to others who were trying to remove the fallen tree.
Army troops with the support of others within a few minutes managed to take away the entire tree and clean the premises.
Afterwards, the authorities of the DMC and Galigamuwa divisional secretariat evacuated 11 families temporarily to the nearby school.
Residents and government authorities thanked the Army for their speedy action and support for the removal.
