661 Brigade’s Initiative Gives Away School Accessories to Pooneryn Children

A 661 Brigade-initiated project of the Army on behalf of needy school going children in Pooneryn gave away a large stock of school accessories to the value of about Rs 2.3 lakhs on Monday (5) during a brief ceremony at Vinasiyodei Vidyalaya in Pooneryn.

Troops of the 661 Brigade in the 66 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) received the sponsorship support of the National Tourist Guide Lecturers’ Association and the ‘Kind Heart’ Association for this humanitarian assistance, meant to encourage the students for studies.

96 students in Vinasiyodei Vidyalaya - Poonaryn under this arrangement received school bags, stationeries, uniforms and other accessories during the simple ceremony on Monday (5). Most of those students from very low-income families have been badly affected due to recent floods or lack of income generating employment opportunities in the areas.

661 Brigade Commander, Colonel Kithsiri Ekanayake who was behind the realization of the project attended the occasion with representatives of donor agencies and close associates of those representatives.

Mr V. Gunasekara and Mr S. Dissanayake from Kind Heart Association, Mr. T S Ibraheem of the National Tourist Guide Lecturers’ Association, Lieutenant Colonel Senarathne Bandara, Civil Affairs Officer, 661 Brigade, Major Chaminda Gunarathne, Commanding Officer, 15 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), Mr S Udayabavan, Principal of the school, Teachers, Students and Parents were present during the event.
