65 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) recently celebrated its 9th anniversary with a series of programmes on the directions of Major General Sarath Weerawardane, General Officer Commanding, 65 Division at Thunukkai.
A Guard Turnout salute to the GOC on the same day (15) at the 65 Division premises, recital of the Army song and a group photograph, followed by planting of a Sandalwood sapling in the 65 Division compound were among major highlights in the day’s itinerary.
All Ranks refreshments and the opening of a new library building at the Divisional Headquarters culminated the day’s proceedings.
To coincide with the anniversary, a foundation stone for construction of a new training billet was laid on Friday (15) by the General Officer Commanding, 65 Division with the participation of Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of under command formations.
On 16 December, an alms-giving to 50 buddhist monks got underway at the Divisional Headquarters. A musical evening coloured the anniversary celebrations at Thunukkai.
This Division, raised on 2011 in Mallawi as the 5 Task Force has been commanded by seven GOCs in succession. Brigadier Athula Galagamage was the first GOC and Major General Sarath Weerawardana is the present.
