65 Div HQ Introduces Novel Approach for Garbage Collection

65 Division Headquarters in Thunukkai under the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), in what could be defined as an income-generating project of novel dimension has introduced a scheme to buy disposables, re-usable garbage and plastic items from the general public against on the spot cash.

The project, a new feature introduced on an initiative of the Colonel, Administration & Quartering (Col-AQ) of the 65 Division, Colonel Nalinda Ariyasena under the guidance of Major General Wasantha Kumarapperuma, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 65 Division has begun buying cardboard (Rs 10 per kg), plastics (Rs 50 per kg), energy and drink bottles (Rs 50 per kg), plastic bottles (Rs 10 per kg), tins (Rs 6 per kg), white glass pieces (Rs 5 per kg), brown glass pieces (Rs 2 per kg), green glass pieces (Rs 1 per kg) and yoghurt cups (Rs 2 per kg).

The Army project will also buy coconut shells for production of charcoal which could be sold at Rs 65 per kg in the outside market. It also aims to help under-privileged students in those remote areas who would be interested in making a few rupees as an additional income to buy school essentials and other stationeries.

To begin with, all Brigades, Battalions and Training Schools under the 65 Division have been instructed to establish such garbage collecting points in respective places and get the message across to the public in the area.

Major General Vijitha Ravipriya, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi meanwhile having impressed with the new project has assured his support to introduce the eco-friendly scheme in the whole of areas under the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi after evaluating the success of the pilot project.latest Running | Nike News
