Troops of the 65 Division and the 66 Division of the Security Force Headquarters -Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) on account of Thaipongal festival season launched two 'Shramadana' projects at the Government Tamil Mixed School premises in Vellankulam and inside the Pooneryn Government Hospital compound.
Over 100 members of 15 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment of the 651 Brigade under the 65 Division cleaned the school premises and all the buildings, following a request made by the Principal to the General Officer Commanding, 65 Division to the same effect.
Major General Sarath Weerawardane, General Officer Commanding, 65 Division has extended his blessings for the project.
Meanwhile, 66 Division troops in another self-help project to coincide with 'Thaipongal' conducted a 'Shramadana' drive in the Pooneryn Government Hospital premises on 'Thaipongal' day (Jan 14).
A large gathering of soldiers, belonging to 661 Brigade and 66 Division Headquarters cleaned the hospital premises and took steps to plant herbal saplings inside the compound to make it more environment-friendly.
Towards the end of the programme, troops provided lunch and refreshments to the patients in hospital wards with the approval of authorities at Pooneryn Hospital. Major General Duminda Keppetiwalana, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division coordinated the programme in consultation with hospital authorities.
