613 Brigade troops serving under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) celebrated its 6th anniversary on Friday (20) in accordance with military formalities and traditions, giving priority to religious observances under the guidance of Colonel M.W.A.A Wijesuriya, Brigade Commander, 613 Brigade at Palampiddi, Headquarters premises.
The anniversary programme kicked off after a ‘Bodhi Pooja’ ceremony at the Brigade premises.
The series of sports events, cricket, football, volleyball, badminton tournaments and the selection of the fittest soldier competitions were held during 17-26 December, 2016 and 06-17 January, 2017 respectively.
The day’s anniversary celebrations commenced with a Guard Turnout presented by the troops of 26 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) to the Brigade Commander, 613 Brigade, followed by a group photograph and planting of a sapling in the morning hours.
An all rank lunch plus the awarding of trophies and certificates and an address by the Commander also took place after the main events.
For the first time in the 613 Brigade history, ‘The Best Clerk’, ‘The Best Driver’, ‘The Best Soldier’ and ‘The Best Civil Servant’ were selected for their outstanding performances and rewarded at the same location.
In parallel with this anniversary celebration, a musical show got underway in the evening for the troops at the 613 Brigade Headquarters gymnasium.
All officers and Other Ranks and members of the civil staff participated in the anniversary formalities.
