The 5th annual Advanced South Asia’s Regional Civil Affairs Seminar - 2017, organized jointly by the Army Directorate of Psychological Operations and the US Embassy of Sri Lanka was inaugurated this morning (8) at Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo.
The 10-day seminar, designed with the intention of providing a broader exposure on civil relations to tri-service military personnel in the South Asian region is attended by more than 30 representatives from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
The opening ceremony commenced after arrival of the Chief Guest, HE Athul Keshap, US Ambassador for Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Brigadier Mangala Wijesundara, Director, Directorate of Psychological Operations of the Army graced the opening session as a distinguished invitee.
The welcome address and the subsequent keynote address of the Chief Guest allowed the sessions proper to begin at Taj Samudra.
40 Army Officers, 3 Navy Officers, 3 Air Force Officers and 3 Coastal Guards, together with several tri-service Senior Officers are attending the course which cover areas such as International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, Conflict Resolution, Civil-Media Relations, etc.
All participants posed for a group photograph before the second segment of the workshop began on Tuesday (8). The course will continue until Friday (18).
