59 Division under the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFH-MLT) celebrated its 8th anniversary with elaborate programmes under the directions of Brigadier Nishantha Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 59 Division during 13-16 December.
The anniversary celebrations kicked off with multi-religious programmes transferring merits to fallen and disable War Heroes and invoking blessings on the serving Army personnel. Special Prayer services were held on 13 & 14 December at Jumma Mosque at Mulliyaweli and St. Jude’s Church, Mullaittivu. Also, a ‘Bodhi Pooja’ programme was held at the Divisional Headquarters temple on 15 December.
On 16 December, a Guard Turnout, presented by 23 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), saluted Brigadier Wanniarachchi at the Divisional Headquarters premises, commencing the military formalities of the anniversary programme. Planting of a mango sapling, all rank tea party and an all rank lunch and a troop address culminated the anniversary celebrations.
Brigadier K.H.P.P. Fernando, Deputy GOC, 59 Division, senior officers, officers and other ranks of 59 Division attended the programmes.
