57 Division Marks 5th Anniversary Holding Sport Tournament


To coincide with the 5th anniversary celebrations of Kilinochchi-based 57 Division, several meritorious activities, sport events and tournaments were recently organized both at 57 Division Headquarters and Kilinochchi Central College playground.

57 Division that performed a commendable task during the humanitarian operations was established on 26th February 2007 considering challenging battlefield requirements at that point of time.

Anniversary arrangements included separate tournaments in cricket, football, volleyball and a few rounds for tugs of war among 17 teams of Army personnel, belonging to 3 Gajaba Regiment, 4 and 6 Sri Lanka National Guard, 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 9 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 12 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment. 

Final encounters in cricket, football and volleyball tournaments on Sunday (19) at Kilinochchi Central College grounds produced 3 Gajaba Regiment teams as the winners in all three sport disciplines.

Players of 12 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment emerged victorious in the final tug of war, contested by several teams. Trophies and certificates were given away by Brigadier K.R.P Rowel, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division towards the end of the day’s programme.

On February 26, troops of the 7 Sri Lanka Signal Corps accorded a Guard Turnout to the Division’s General Officer Commanding and took part in an all rank lunch plus a tree planting campaign. On February (22), an overnight ‘Pirith’ chanting ceremony was joined by all the troops.

571, 572, 573 and 574 Brigade Commanders and senior officers attended the final day of anniversary arrangements.
