57 Division-Initiated Martial Art Course (Phase-I) Ends

More than 4 Officers and 150 Other Rankers, interested in martial arts are currently following a special Kiyoshi Ryu Budo (Martial Arts Training Course) at the 57 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), due to an initiative, taken by Major General Jagath Gunawardane, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 57 Division.

Two phases of the training course were successfully completed by a team of trainers, headed by Saisei Clement De Zoysa, Chief Instructor World Shito-ryu Karatedo Federation Sri Lanka Branch and World Kiyoshiryu Budo Federation, Sri Lanka Branch. Staff Sergeant H.M.J.P.K Jayasundara and Lance Corporal M.D.K Rajapaksha from the Army Karate Association.

The certificate awarding ceremony for two groups who completed the course (Phases 1 & 2) took place on Wednesday (29) during a brief ceremony, held at the 57 Division Headquarters.

Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi at the invitation of Major General Jagath Gunawardane, GOC, 57 Division attended the brief awarding ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Members of the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), 9 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), 17 (V) Gajaba Regiment (GR) and 14 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) were among those who successfully completed both phases of the martial arts course.

The 3rd and 4th phases of the course, devised to enhance self defence techniques, physical strength, endurance, courage and tolerance among All Ranks, is to commence shortly.
