56 Army Built New Houses Provided to Displaced People


Fifty-six families who have hitherto lived in the IDP centre at Kiliweddi on Wednesday (25) after their displacement in the south of Sampoor, took charge of their new houses, built by Army soldiers at Seedanaveli, Muttur under the government’s ‘Negenahira Navodaya’ development programme.

Security Forces Headquarters, East (SFHQ-E) commanded by Major General Lal Perera completed the construction of those fifty-six houses within a matter of about 4 - 5 months with the material support given  by the Ministry of Resettlement.

Each house, constructed in 20 perch block has a large bedroom, sitting room, sanitary facilities and a spacious verandah. Title deeds for the property were distributed among the recipients by distinguished invitees on the same occasion.

The ceremony started with religious ceremonies of both Hindu and Buddhist faith. Governor of Eastern Province, Chief Minister of Eastern Province, District Secretary for Trincomalee, Commander, SFHQ-E, General Officer Commanding 22 Division, Commander 224 Brigade and a gathering of civilians and invitees attended the simple ceremony.
