55 Division Reading Camp Attracts School Students


Vettalaikerni-based 55 Division with the sponsorship of National Library and Documentation Services Board (NLDSB) recently organized a ‘Reading Camp’ at Pullopallai Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed school in the Jaffna peninsula.  

With the objective of promoting interest in reading and highlighting the importance of reading, the ‘Reading Camp’ programme, consisted of a variety of programmes.

Free distribution of reading literature, donation of books, conduct of special lectures, etc sponsored by the NLDSB took place on the same occasion as some 75 students, 25 teachers, 9 Army officers and 30 other ranks sat together to read for a few hours after listening to special lectures on the same theme.  

At the end of the day’s programme, each participant received a vauable certificate and 10 selected schools in the 55 Division area received parcels of books as gifts to the value of Rs. 100,000/=. Donations were given away by Mrs. Nalini Mllawa Arachchi, Directress NLDSB.  

General Officer Commanding, 55 Division Brigadier Ajith Wijesinghe, Commander, 552 Brigade Colonel Deepal Wanni Arachchi, Principal, Pallai RCTM school Mr. V. Jeevaratnam, officials of NLDSB including Head of Division Mr. Maithri Jayasundara, Subject Officer Mr. Indika N. Silva, Training Officer Mrs. K. Kamalambika and Mrs. Vanitha Vanigaraja were present during the Reading Camp programme.
