A programme to distribute free spectacles for needy people in Jaffna area took place at the 10 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) headquarters in Marathankeni, Jaffna through the sponsorship of Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society on Friday (30).
The event was organized on the directions of Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) as a community project to assist people with optical ailments and defects in the area.
Brigadier Jayantha Gunarathna, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division, was behind the organization of the community project in close coordination with the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society.
Over 600 people visited the arrangement, held at 10 (V) VIR Headquarters in Marathankeni.
Out of them 415 personnel received free spectacles after screening their vision by the medical team who attended the mobile eye clinic.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society, Colonel General Staff, 55 Division, Army officers, Soldiers and civilians also attended the event.
