54 Division Troops Learn Environment Protection and Mannar GCE O/L Applicants Attend Two-Day Seminar

Troops serving the 54 Division under the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) recently attended a lecture on ‘Conservation of Environment and Waste Management’, organized by Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources at the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni auditorium.

The lecture, conducted by Mr Chandana Ranaweera Aarachchi, Director, Sustainable Environment at Ministry of Environment touched on the subjects such as environmental pollution, recycling of waste matter, production of organic manure and bio gas during the interaction.

The lecturer pointed out the importance of maintaining the camp premises in a neat and tidy manner and use of dried leaves as resources for utility work in the premises. After the lecture, the Ministry official donated several utensils that can be used for recycling of garbage matter.

Meanwhile, on the directives of Major General A.K.S Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W, the General Officer Commanding for 54 Division, Brigadier M.A.M Dias, recently organized a two-day seminar for GCE ordinary level students, resident in Mannar and Madu areas.            

The seminar, coordinated by educational wings in ‘Tharunyata Hetak’ organization and both Mannar and Madu Zone Directors of Education, attracted more than 2000 students for those sessions, conducted separately at Mannar Siththiwinayagar School, Al Azar School, Murukkan Central College and Adampan Vidyalaya at Madu.

All the students attending those seminars were provided with refreshments and transport facilities, all writing papers and files, pens and pencils, etc with the support of other sponsors.

The inaugural ceremony, attended by special invitees, including Messrs Sarath Deshapriya Waduge, A.G. Pradeep Pushpakumara, both from ‘Tharunyata Hetak’ organization, Mr M.A Rewel, Zonal Education Director, Mannar, Assistant Directors, principals, teachers and resources personnel took place after lighting the traditional oil lamp.
