53 Div Troops Adorn Headquarters with Saplings

Troops of the 53 Division in Inamaluwa, aiming to help increase the country’s forest reserve up to 32% as planned by the Presidential Secretariat and the Government, launched a tree planting drive inside the 53 Division Headquarters premises on the directions of Major General Athula Kodippili, General Officer Commanding, 53 Division on Thursday (21) to coincide with the International Day of Forests.

The programme was kicked off in close liaison with the office of the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority in Huruluwewa. Troops planted 600 saplings inside the 53 Division Headquarters compound at Inamaluwa and contributed to the tree planting drive.

International Day of Forests is celebrated on 21st March 2019. Since being announced by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, this global day of celebration has aimed to raise awareness of the importance of all types of trees and woodland.
