52 Division Marks Its Birthday

Troops serving Varani-based 52 Division marked its 17th anniversary, giving pride of place to religious observances.

Together with Brigadier Anura Sudasinghe, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 52 Division, troops got together at the temple premises in the Division Headquarters and took part in a special Bodhi Pooja on Friday (17).

Another Pooja at Sri Suththipuram Amman Kovil at Varani and a series of sports activities for both officers and other ranks, added colour and memory to the occasion.

On the day of the anniversary (Aug 24), in accordance with military traditions, a Guard of Honour saluted the GOC during a parade. An all rank lunch that followed with the participation of the GOC and senior officers, brought the 17 anniversary celebrations to an end.

52 Division Headquarters, raised in August 1995 due to operational requirements in the Jaffna peninsula, has to-date rendered an invaluable service to the civilians.
