51 Division Troops Donate New House to Ex-LTTE Intelligence Wing Combatant

Symbolizing the magnanimity of the soldiers who once fought against the bitter enemy until peace dawned, 25 Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops of the Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) built a new house to an ex-combatant, now living in Urelu, Jaffna at their expense.

Responding to the woes of Mrs M.Kumajini, the spouse of the rehabilitated former combatant, M. Mahendraraja of the LTTE intelligence wing who has two children now, the 511 Brigade Headquarters, constructed this house at a cost of about Rs 5.5 lakhs within 45 days at Urumparei East.

Mahendraraja completed his rehabilitation on February 15, 2013 and re- united with his family to enter the new house gifted by the Army in response to an appeal made to the Army by his wife, Kumajini, highlighting the difficulties in founding a house for them.

With the blessings of the SFHQ-J Commander, 25 VIR soldiers donated their labour to the project and completed the house before it was ceremonially handed over to the family. Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Security Force Commander, Jaffna handed over the keys of the new house to the family on Sunday (3).

SFHQ-J has so far erected 1781 new houses for low-income group families in Jaffna.

General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Commanding Officer 25 VIR, Divisional Secretary for Kopay and several others attended the ceremony.
