51 & 52 Divisions in Jaffna Formally Welcome New Jaffna Commander

51 Division Headquarters at Kopai, Jaffna on Friday (31) and 52 Division Headquarters in Varani on Saturday (1), both serving under the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), saluted the newly-appointed Jaffna Commander, Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi when he made his maiden visits to both Headquarters after he assumed office.

During his visit to the 51 Division Headquarters, he was honoured in a Guard Turnout, presented by 25 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops after he was warmly received by Brigadier Mervyn Perera, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 51 Division who afterwards enlightened the new Jaffna Commander on role and tasks, pertaining to 51 Division area.

Before the new Commander addressed the troops in the 51 Division, he was invited to make his visit memorable by planting a sapling in the premises.

General Officer Commanding, 51 Division along with Brigade Commanders of 511, 512, 513 and 515 Brigades, Officers and Other Ranks were at the location to listen to the new SF-J Commander during his formal address.

Meanwhile, the new Jaffna Commander on Saturday (1) made his first official visit to the 52 Division Headquarters at Varani as a formality after he took office.

On arrival at the 52 Division Headquarters, Major General Aruna Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division welcomed him before the troops of the 12 Gemunu Watch saluted him in a formal Guard Turnout. GOC, 52 Division gave him an update on present commitments and ongoing projects in the 52 Division area.

The visiting new SF-J Commander added memories to the occasion by planting a mango sapling in the premises and afterwards inquired into the facilities of the troops and other welfare matters.

During his stay at the 52 Division, he addressed the troops and urged them to continue their good work and professional training. Brigade Commanders of 521, 522 and 523 Brigades along with, Officers and Other Ranks listened to the new SF-J Commander.

The visiting Commander attended an All-Rank lunch and placed his signature in the Visitors’ Book at the 52 Division Headquarters before he left the premises.
