30 Army Athletes Get Training Expertise in Muaythai

A group of 30 Army athletes of the Sri Lanka Army Muaythai Committee were privileged to take part in the recent international training camp, organized by Muaythai Association of Sri Lanka at Digana Sports Complex in Kandy.

The world renowned professional expert, Ledzilla Chumpair together with instructors of Muaythai Association of Sri Lanka conducted the training camp, attended by more than 350 athletes and officials, drawn from different provinces of the country.

Major General Manoj Mudannayake, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Muaythai Committee, Lieutenant Colonel P.P.C Perera, coach for Army athletes, along with 25 male athletes and 5 female athletes represented the Army in the training sessions.

Army athletes were largely benefited by training modules and techniques, presented by the trainers and were able to mingle with other athletes in the civil sector during the training workshop.

Mr Miran Milanga, coordinator for international participation, Mr Asoka Jayaratne, Chairman, Muaythai Association of Sri Lanka and a gathering of athletic fans were there at the final closing ceremony.

Muaythai or Thai Boxing is a combat sport of Thailand included in the world games which uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques which promotes physical and mental discipline. It is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins etc and needs a good physical preparation since it also is a form of marital art.
