3 Volunteer Sinha Regiment Team Carries Cricket Championship

Sports tournaments, now organized at Division and Brigade levels as per instructions of the Commander of the Army, continue to produce new sportsmen and women of high standards.

Security Force Headquarters – Central (SFHQ-C) on the directions of its Commander, Major General Mano Perera, conducted a cricket tournament with the participation of 17 cricket teams, selected from all the units in the SFHQ-C. The initial two-day (Nov 8 - 9) tournament led to the semi finals on Nov 15.

The finals of the tournament got to a start on Saturday (22) with finalists, SFHQ-C team and 3 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR ) team in the presence of a large crowd of spectators. Representing Major General Mano Perera, Commander, SFHQ-C, Brigadier K.M.D.A.A De Silva and a few senior officers watched the finals at Diyatalawa Muthukumaru grounds.

After close tussles, 3 (V) SLSR cricket team carried the championship and the team at SFHQ-C became the runners-up. Lance Corporal I.R.W.S Bandara of 3 (V) SLSR was awarded the best batsman’s trophy.
