231 Brigade-Refurbished Theological Institute Re-opened

231 Brigade troops in Batticaloa under the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E), responding to a request, made by Rt. Rev Bishop of Batticaloa offered their full support for refurbishment of the St. Joesph Vaz Theological Institute at the Bishop House premises in Batticaloa.

Troops of 10 Gajaba Regiment (GR) serving in the 231 Brigade Batticaloa took the lead in this connection with the assistance of 4 Gemunu Watch (GW), 11 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) and 3 Corps of Engineer Services (CES) carried out those repairs and refurbishment under the supervision of Commanding Officer, 10 GR and Brigadier Senarath Niwunhella, Commander, 231 Brigade on the instructions of Brigadier Chula Abeynayake, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division of the SFHQ-E.

Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, Commander, Security Forces - East while the repairs were on, made a surprise visit to the location and spoke to the Bishop and the troops engaged in the project.

The official handover of the project took place on Saturday (8) during a simple ceremony headed by the Bishop and clergy of the Diocese of Batticaloa.

Brigadier A.S Hewavitharana, Brigadier General Staff (BGS) at the SFHQ-E representing the Commander, Security Forces - East graced the re-opening ceremony in the presence of a large gathering of religious dignitaries, Senior Officers and members of the Church.
