Troop of the 23 Division serving under the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ - E) organized a Medical Clinic under the guidance of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 23 Division for under privileged people in Welikanda area at Welikanda Maha Vidyalaya on January 24.
Several medical specialists, together with ‘Susarana Lanka Social Development Foundation’ conducted the clinics.
In parallel with the programme, Major General Hettiarachchi gave away stationery items to 100 students of the Welikanda Maha Vidyalaya and selected 02 pre-schools. In addition 5 selected temples were donated water tanks, lockers, dry ration packs, mosquito nets, etc. Several dry ration packs were also distributed among 50 civilians in the area.
Major General Hettiarachchi, officers, other ranks and civilians in the Welikanda area were associated with the event.
Nearly 2000 patients received medical treatment free of charge from the medical clinic including in the Cardiology clinic, Paediatric clinic, Surgical clinic, VOG clinic, Skin clinic, Orthopedics clinic, Eye clinic, Dental and ENT clinics during the programme.
