24 Battalion of the Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) of the 224 Brigade of the 22 Division under the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) initiated a Dengue Prevention Campaign in Muttur area with the assistance of Medical Officers and Muttur Pradeshiya Sabha officials on Saturday (23).
50 Army personnel, together with 25 Policemen and 25 Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) participated in the programme which was closely supervised by Major M.A.C.P Marasinghe, Commanding Officer, 24 SLNG.
Organized under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 22 Division Major General Aruna Jayasekara, the drive was able to clean a large patch of populated Muttur areas.
Troops and medical teams educated the community on how effectively Dengue can be eliminated by maintaining a hygienic atmosphere at work places and their respective dwelling places.
The inauguration of the programme took place around 8.00 a.m. in the presence of the Brigade Commander, 224 Brigade, Colonel E.A.P Ediriweera, Civil Affairs Officer, 224 Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel G.G.N Samarasingha, OIC Muttur Police Station, MOH Muttur Dr Jesmy and Muttur Pradeshiya Sabha representatives.
